Indian junior shooters were on rampage claiming as many as four more gold medals at the ISSF World Championship in Cairo on Tuesday. The four medals swelled India's tally to 20 medals including nine gold, three silver and eight bronze medals. They are now placed second behind China, who have 18 gold for a grand total of 37 medals. India's gold rush on competition day six began early with the team of Esha Singh, Shikha Narwal and Varsha Singh wining the air pistol team in the junior women's category, beating China 16-6 in the gold medal clash.

Ramita Crowned 10m Air Rifle Junior Women's World Champion

India's Ramita was on Wednesday crowned world champion in the women's 10m air rifle junior event after she defeated China's Ying Shen 16-12 in a close gold medal contest at the ISSF World Championship in Cairo. Ramita's gold and a 1-2-3 finish by the Indians in the women's 50m pistol junior competition, were the highlights for the country on the seventh competition day at the Egypt International Olympic City (EIOC) Shooting Range, taking the country's tally to 25 medals -- 10 gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals. They stood second behind China in the medal table.

ISSF World Championship: Sameer wins silver in junior men's 25m rapid fire pistol

He got 23 hits in the medal match, finishing behind Wang Shiwen of China, who won gold with 25. Liu Yangpan won bronze in a match which pitted three Chinese against one Indian. Sameer had shot 573 in qualification to finish fourth and then had 10 hits to Yangpan's 12 in the ranking round to make it to the medal round.

It was also Patil's second senior world championship gold in his very first outing, having won the individual 10m air rifle event earlier. India also picked up a silver and two bronze medals on the day to take their tally to five gold, one silver and five bronze, to maintain their second place behind China in the standings.

Rudrankksh Patil Becomes Second Indian Shooter To Win 10m Air Rifle Gold At World Championships, Secures Paris Olympics Quota

Young Rudrankksh Patil on Friday won gold in men's 10m air rifle event in the ISSF World Championship here, becoming only the second Indian to achieve the feat after the legendary Abhinav Bindra. Patil also secured a 2014 Paris Olympics quota for the country in the process. This was India's second Olympic quota. The 18-year-old Rudrankksh beat Italy's Danilo Dennis Sollazzo 17-13 in the gold medal match after a brilliant come-from-behind effort.

Cairo. In the process, Rudrankksh became only the second Indian world champion in the 10m air rifle category after Abhinav Bindra, who won gold in 2006. Rudrankksh is overall the sixth world champion shooter from India. Among them, only Bindra went on to win an Olympics medal. Rudrankksh’s gold has also resulted in him winning a quota for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Rudrankksh, lovingly known as Sai at home, is the eldest child of Balasaheb Patil, SP Palghar. His mother, Hemangini, is a regional transport officer at Vashi in Navi Mumbai. With that kind of background, rigour and discipline are qualities that have been imbibed well.
