Ravichandran Ashwin has insisted that people have doubted his credentials a Test cricketer for India throughout his career, mainly because he made his name as a bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ashwin added that he came into the Indian Test set up as a replacement of former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, but admitted that people doubted whether he could actually fill in such big shoes. However, with 101 Tests and 522 wickets in the bag, Ashwin has managed to win over his doubters.

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya was reunited with his son Agastya for the first time after the cricketer's divorce from Natasa Stankovic. Hardik and Natasa, who got married in 2020 and also exchanged vows in 2023, broke the news of their separation in July this year. Agastya had gone to Serbia with Natasa after his parents' divorce. Earlier this month, Natasa had dropped Agastya to Hardik's house in Mumbai. However, Hardik was away on a holiday break and didn't get the chance to meet his son at that time.

In a release issued by the BCCI, the selection committee retained the same squad for the second Test. The second Test will be played in Kanpur from 27th September. There were talks around KL Rahul's position in the team, especially after the way he performed in the series opener at Chepauk. But, the selection committee decided to give him another chance. However, it would be interesting to see if Sarfaraz Khan is preferred over him in the playing XI.
