Virat Kohli's journey to become India cricket great started with the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Players like Ravindra Jadeja, Manish Pandey, Pradeep Sangwan, and Saurabh Tiwary were part of that team. Also, part of the team was Punjab's fast bowler Siddharth Kaul. The fast bowler announced his retirement from Indian cricket on November 28, having represented the country in three ODIs and as many T20s in 2018-19. The 34-year-old Punjab pacer, who played in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, made the announcement on social media.

The Indian cricket team players geared up for the second Test match against Australia in Adelaide with a juniors vs seniors football match. Ahead of the game starting December 6, the squad was split into two teams based on seniority as they competed in a football game in front of a small crowd. Pictures and videos from the practice session showed both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma taking part in the game as the crowd cheered every move. According to some posts on social media, Rishabh Pant was in the juniors team along with other young cricketers in the squad.

The comments were made following Virat's brilliant show in Perth as India won the first Test match against Australia. Lehmann called Root "a great player" but despite the batter scoring 35 Test centuries, the ex-Australia star said that he has not yet reached the "upper echelon" of cricketers.
