"Shifted My Focus From...": Shikhar Dhawan On Competition For Opening Slots In Team India

After their defeat in South Africa this year, India bounced back in style and clinched the ongoing three-match ODI series vs West Indies in Ahmedabad with a game remaining. 2-0 up, the hosts will be aiming to complete a clean sweep in the ongoing third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium. All eyes will also be on Shikhar Dhawan during the third ODI, who missed the first two games. The opener missed the first ODI after testing positive for Covid-19 and resumed training before the second match but wasn't included in the playing XI. The veteran will be hoping to put in a good display especially with the rising competition for the opener slots within the Indian setup. Such was the competition that the experienced cricketer wasn't included in last year's T20 World Cup squad. Ahead of the third ODI, Dhawan was asked about the competition for openers in the national team. Answering the question, he revealed he had shifted focus from "contribution to competition".

Yash Dhull Sets Himself 18-month Target To Play For Team India

Yash Dhull has lost count of the number of flights he has taken in the past 48 hours. He had spent the previous day in Ahmedabad where the entire team was felicitated a following tiring journey in which the squad had to take as many as four flights to reach India from the Caribbean. Having lived out of suitcase for the past two months, which could potentially be life-changing, when Dhull finally met his parents, it was just a mere 30 minutes of reunion for the sleep-deprived captain of the World Cup winning India U-19 team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Out Of Isolation After Recovering From COVID-19

India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had tested positive for COVID-19, has recovered and is out out of isolation. However, with skipper Rohit Sharma already making it clear that senior opener Shikhar Dhawan will open the innings in the third ODI against West Indies here on Friday, the Maharashtra player is unlikely to be considered for the inconsequential match. Ruturaj warmed the bench in the home T20 series against New Zealand and also did not get an opportunity to play against South Africa in the away ODI series. He was found to be COVID positive just four days before the start of the West Indies series, practically ruling him out of the rubber.
