KL Rahul on Thursday registered his first win as India captain as he led them to a 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first ODI in Harare. Rahul, returning to the field for the first time since IPL 2022, did not get a chance to bat, but he did impress fans before the match even got underway. As the two teams lined up for the national anthems, Rahul was seen chewing a gum. Before India's national anthem began, he was seen taking the chewing gum out of his mouth.

India's top order wobbled a bit while chasing a small total but captain KL Rahul said his side was not nervous as it notched up a comprehensive five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI to clinch the series with one match remaining here on Saturday. Chasing 162 to win, India were 97 for 4 at the end of the 14th over before Sanju Samson's unbeaten 43 off 39 balls took the visitors home with 24.2 overs left. "We bat deep and it's good for some of the guys to get time in the middle. We weren't nervous," Rahul said at the post-match presentation.

After sitting out of the first ODI, India all-rounder Shardul Thakur bowled an excellent spell on his return to the playing XI for the second ODI against Zimbabwe. Shardul bowled a match-winning spell, taking three for 38 in seven overs as India bowled out Zimbabwe for a paltry total of 161 after electing to bowl. In the 12th over, Shardul dismissed opener Innocent Kaia off the first ball, before also getting the better of Zimbabwe captain Regis Chakabva on the final ball. He then added a third after castling Luke Jongwe in the 33rd over.

It was not quite a domination unlike the first ODI but the paltry 162-run target meant that the KL Rahul-led side did not have to sweat much despite a mid-innings jolt. Sent into bowl, comeback man Thakur (3/38 in seven overs) brilliantly set it up and became the wrecker-in-chief as the Indian bowlers once again came out on top to skittle out Zimbabwe for 161.
