Commonwealth Games 2022, Day 4: Full India Schedule

The third day of the ongoing Commonwealth Games saw India adding two more gold medals to its kitty with weightlifters Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli winning the yellow metal in the 67kg and 73kg categories respectively. The Indian men's table tennis team also progressed to the semi-finals while the men's hockey team started their campaign in a dominating fashion after brushing aside the challenge of Ghana. In badminton too, India progressed to the semi-finals of the mixed team event.

Soon after, Gururaja Poojary won a bronze medal in the 61kg weight category and then Mirabai Chanu really made the day shine with her gold in the women's 49kg category. In badminton, India ended up winning the mixed team event matches after defeating Sri Lanka 5-0 and then Australia x-x while pugilist Mohammed Hussamuddin defeated South Africa's Amzolele Dyeyi in the men's featherweight category to move into the pre-quarterfinals, and Lovlina Borgohain also progressed to the quarters in her xx category.

The first hurdle they face is debutants Ghana in their campaign opener. While the 36th-ranked team may seem easy meat, Manpreet Singh and Co. will not take them lightly because the match-up is against an unknown team. The two teams have met only once before - at the 1975 World Cup in which India emerged 7-0 victors. Little is known about this opposition but going by how their women's team played against India, Ghana is all about spirited approach. That said, what works for India is Ghana's lack of experience.

Vandana Katariya's brace hands India second consecutive win in CWG women's hockey

India scored all their three goals from penalty corners with Vandana finding the net twice, while Gurjit Kaur fired in a fierce drag-flick on Saturday. The Indians were the much better side on display as they controlled the game from the start to finish, barring a few phases. Penalty corner conversion still continued to be a concern for India as they made use of three out of the seven they earned in the match.
