PV Sindhu finally added that one medal that was missing from an otherwise glittering collection, when she clinched the CWG women's singles gold, downing Canada's Michelle Li in straight games in a 48-minute affair.
It was expected that Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and the formidable pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy would end up on top of the podium but what provided the icing on the cake was the 40-year-old Sharath Kamal's gold medal-winning show against an equally good opponent in Liam Pitchford.
It was double delight for India in badminton on Monday as ace shuttlers PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen delivered gold medals by winning their respective women's and men's singles finals. PV Sindhu beat Canada's Michelle Li 21-15, 21-13 in the 2022 Commonwealth Games women's singles badminton final to win her first gold medal in singles at a multi-sport event. A former world champion and two-time Olympic medallist, Sindhu had won a silver medal at the last Commonwealth Games in singles and also won the silver medal at the Asian Games in 2018.

Reigning world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen stormed into the final of women's 48kg after outclassing England's Stubley Alfia Savannah, her exploits overshadowing even Amit Panghal's display in men's 51kg at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. Nikhat, who won by a unanimous 5-0 verdict, started the semifinal on a confident note and dominated all the three rounds to emerge winner in the lop-sided bout. As expected, the 26-year-old Indian was in lead after the opening round with all the five judges ruling it in her favour, and it went on similar lines in the ensuing two rounds.
