La Liga issued a statement calling for "an urgent judicial response" in the name of sporting fairness, claiming that the CSD's resolution "violates" the rules governing the economic control of the Spanish league. But a Barcelona appeals court overturned the lower court's ruling on March 28, saying Alves' trial had inconsistencies and contradictions, and there was insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty.
