Cameron Norrie is looking to build on his breakthrough Wimbledon run by seizing his opportunity at the US Open.
The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, will compete in the US Open doubles together in the final tournament of the former's career. The pair were given a wildcard to compete in New York, and will play alongside each other for the first time since the French Open in 2018.
Norrie is set to be seeded eighth at Flushing Meadows due to the absence of Novak Djokovic, who will miss out on the final major of 2022 owing to United States rules restricting non-citizens from entering the country without being fully vaccinated against coronavirus.
Gael Monfils has been ruled out of the US Open due to a foot injury he suffered at last week’s Canadian Open. Monfils, who also missed the French Open and Wimbledon because of a heel injury which required surgery, was making his return to tennis in Montreal.
Daniil Medvedev says he “would love” to see Novak Djokovic play at the US Open amid uncertainty surrounding the Wimbledon champion’s participation. Djokovic is on the entry list at Flushing Meadows, which takes place from August 29 to September 11, but is set to be refused entry into the United States due to his vaccination status. Ad However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), who are responsible for the health and safety of US residents, issued new guidance last week to relax rules regarding social distancing and quarantine.
Andy Murray’s recent trend of underperforming during the US Swing has continued so far in 2022, something he needs to change at the Cincinnati Masters. Murray will face old foe Stanislas Wawrinka on Sunday having lost in the first round of the Citi Open and the Canadian Open. Ad It feels like a return to the Murray from last year when he looked physically drained, and not quite ready to take on the higher ranked players, with everything he did appearing to be anything but easy.
Alexander Zverev has refused to rule out playing at the US Open this summer as he continues to work his way back to fitness. The German suffered ligament damage after rolling his ankle in the French Open semi-final earlier this year and was forced to leave the match against Rafael Nadal in a wheelchair. Ad Zverev, 25, has been out of action ever since, but as his rehabilitation continues, the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist is eyeing a possible return to action at Flushing Meadows at the end of August.
