Mikkel Michelsen has said that he “wants to be world champion” ahead of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland on Saturday. The Danish racer reached his first Speedway GP final in Croatia last month, finishing third behind winner Bartosz Zmarzlik and runner-up Maciej Janowski. His impressive showing in Gorican comes on the back of a strong start to the season with Polish club Lublin and Danish outfit Slangerup, all of which has seen him tipped as an outsider for the Speedway GP world title.

The opening night of the first race of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Gorican lived up to all expectations according to Kelvin Tatum. Things didn’t quite go to plan during a chaotic Heat 9 of the first FIM 2022 Speedway Grand Prix race in Gorican, Croatia. A relatively incident-free, but exciting evening of racing to that point saw Pawel Przedpelski, Maciej Janowski, Jason Doyle and Anders Thomsen initially lining up for the heat with Doyle, third in the overall classification at the time, looking to close in on the leaders. Bartosz Zmarzlik has claimed the first FIM Speedway Grand Prix win of the 2022 season at the FIM Croatian Speedway GP, held in Gorican. The 16 riders battled out for the race win, but there could only be one. Zmarzlik was already the favourite coming into the race weekend after his spectacular performance in last season, which saw the Polish rider come second overall and narrowly missing out on a thrid succsive world title.
