MADRID : Spanish soccer has a racism problem, football federation chief Luis Rubiales said on Monday, after Real Madrid lodged a complaint following alleged insults hurled at their Brazilian star Vinicius Jr.
Soccer governing body FIFA's president Gianni Infantino expressed his support for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr after he called LaLiga and Spain "racist" after receiving racial slurs from fans in Sunday's game at Valencia's Mestalla Stadium.
Vinicius Junior has claimed “racism is normal in La Liga” and says the league “belongs to racists” after being subjected to racist abuse once again. The Brazilian also hit out at Liga president Javier Tebas after he told Vinicius to “inform yourself properly”. Ad Vinicius was sent off during Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat at Valencia on Sunday after being targeted by racist chants from the stands.
