Pragmatic Answer To A Difficult Problem: Daniel Vettori On Use Of A Second Ball To Counter Dew In IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori on Saturday backed the decision to use a second ball in the evening matches to mitigate the dew factor during IPL 2025, calling it a "pragmatic answer to a difficult problem." The BCCI announced that one ball would be changed in the second innings of evening games at the bowling team's request to counter dew. "I think it's a really pragmatic answer to a difficult problem, and it doesn't affect every ground, we know that," Vettori told reporters on the eve of SRH's opening match against Rajasthan Royals.

BFI Elections: Returning Officer Pauses Process After Incumbent President Says Twin High Court Orders Have 'Potential To Disrupt'

The upcoming Boxing Federation of India elections were "paused" on Friday by Returning Officer RK Gauba after the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Courts directed the body to reinstate names that were omitted from the electoral college owing to a March 7 directive by BFI President Ajay Singh. Singh wrote to Gauba on Friday, stating that the BFI is seeking urgent intervention from a superior court due to the "conflicting orders" issued by the two high courts. The election is scheduled for March 28. "The president of the BFI has communicated...'(s)ince these orders have the potential to disrupt the ongoing electoral process/schedule, we are taking steps to approach the superior courts for urgent intervention'," Gauba quoted Singh as saying in in his order.

Carlos Alcaraz Stunned By Belgian Veteran David Goffin In Miami

World number three Carlos Alcaraz suffered a shock early exit from the Miami Open on Friday as Belgian veteran David Goffin fought back for an inspired 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday. The 34-year-old Goffin beat Alcaraz three years ago in Astana in their last meeting and sensing the Spaniard was far from his best in the opening set, he went on the attack. The 55th-ranked Goffin, whose world ranking reached No.7 in 2017, struck some glorious winners while Alcaraz was struggling with unforced errors.

Boxing Receives Official Thumbs-Up For 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Boxing will feature at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after International Olympic Committee members voted unanimously for its inclusion on Thursday. The sport had passed a major hurdle when the IOC Executive Board on Monday recognised World Boxing as the federation to oversee the sport. It ends years of divisions over the way the sport -- which has featured at every Olympic Games since 1904, except Stockholm in 1912 as it was barred under a Swedish law -- is run.
