Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips joined West Ham on loan on Friday for the rest of the season as the England international aims to boost his chances of featuring at Euro 2024. Phillips has rarely featured for the English champions since joining from Leeds in a 45 million pounds ($57 million) move in July 2022. Liverpool shrugged off the absence of Mohamed Salah to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League as Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez struck twice in a 4-0 win at Bournemouth on Sunday. The Reds' title credentials will be tested while their star man is away with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. But Jota and Nunez stood up to be counted to secure a vital win at one of the form sides in the Premier League. Bournemouth had lost just once in their previous nine games to climb comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have been referred to an independent commission by the Premier League after admitting to breaches of financial rules at the end of the 2022/23 season. The alleged breaches of the league's profitability and sustainability rules relate to the 2022-23 season and leave both clubs facing the threat of a points deduction. With Everton and Forest currently embroiled in a relegation battle, that would plunge their top-flight status into severe doubt.
Manchester United will be squaring off against Tottenham Hotspur for their next Premier League match on Sunday at the Old Trafford.
