The Saudi Media Group bid to buy Chelsea has failed to make the final shortlist, according to British media reports on Thursday. The Saudi consortium were one of a host of bidders attempting to buy the troubled Premier League club from Russia owner Roman Abramovich. The Raine Group, handling the sale after Abramovich's assets were frozen by the British Government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has started informing prospective buyers of the status on their offers.
Nick Candy has vowed to involve Chelsea fans if the British property tycoon succeeds in his bid to buy the troubled Premier League club. Candy is believed to have submitted a bid of over £2 billion ($2.6 billion) for his boyhood team before Friday's deadline and he promised to give fans a 'golden share' ownership stake. On a frantic day at Stamford Bridge, former Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe also lodged a joint bid. Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts family followed suit, while LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly's consortium also made a confirmed bid.
Jurgen Klopp said Tuesday that Liverpool are aiming to be as "annoying as possible" as they hunt down Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. City's goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Monday means Klopp's side can close the gap to a single point with victory at in-form Arsenal on Wednesday, with a trip to the Etihad still to come. In the 2018/19 season, Liverpool won their final nine league matches only for Pep Guardiola's team to reel off 14 successive victories to finish top by a point.
Chelsea's technical and performance advisor Petr Cech said the club are having to live "day-by-day" in the wake of sweeping economic sanctions placed on owner Roman Abramovich by the UK government. Abramovich was one of seven more oligarchs sanctioned this week by the UK following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Chelsea have been given a special licence to continue operating, but there are fears they will quickly run out of money unless the terms of that agreement are eased. As it stands the Blues are unable to sign players, renew contracts, sell tickets to matches or merchandise, with limits also on the amount of money they are allowed to spend on travel to away games.

Everton manager Frank Lampard has played down "crisis" talk at the club even though they could be in the Premier League relegation zone by the time they kick off against Wolves on Sunday. Monday's 5-0 capitulation at Tottenham was Everton's fourth defeat in five league games since the former Chelsea boss took charge but Lampard said he found it difficult to accept "instant negativity" following defeats. Referring to reports of a "crisis" meeting, Lampard said Friday: "I had seasons as a player when we had them (player meetings) and went on to win the Champions League. I'm not showing off there, it's just the reality.
