Great Chance For Indian Hockey Team To Finish On Podium In Next Year's World Cup: Vasudevan Baskaran

India need to draw confidence from their Tokyo Olympics campaign and forget the rout at the Commonwealth Games final to claim a podium finish in next year's men's hockey World Cup, feels former captain and coach Vasudevan Baskaran. "I believe they (India) can definitely finish on the podium in Odisha this time. They should move on from the CWG final loss to Australia and ride on the confidence they gained from the Tokyo Olympic Games," said Baskaran, who was the captain of India's 1980 Olympics gold medal winning team. "The team is in the good hands of Graham Reid and the support staff. I believe they have a sure shot at a medal." Baskaran stressed on the need to make a positive start against Spain in the World Cup to be jointly hosted by Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29.

Mohammed Shami Replaces Injured Jasprit Bumrah In India's T20 World Cup Squad

Mohammed Shami has replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah in the 15-member Indian cricket squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, starting October 16 in Australia. Shami was initially named in the standby list for the T20 World Cup squad but a back injury ruled Bumrah out of the mega event and that opened the doors for the veteran pacer. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will travel to Australia shortly. Deepak Chahar was also in race for the spot left vacant by Bumrah but his struggle with injury of late kept him out of contention. India start their T20 World Cup campaign on October 23 with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Women's Asia Cup Final: India start favourites against Sri Lanka in pursuit of 7th Asia cup title

The tournament brought to fore India's depth as the younger crop of players has shouldered the burden of taking the team to the final without any tangible contribution from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana. Such has been the impact of the Indian team, that skipper Harmanpreet played only four games (81 runs) and in total faced a only 72 balls in those matches. Even Mandhana, who led in three games, skipped one game and didn't need to contribute much.
