Despite a long-awaited entrance back into Team India for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Mohammed Shami may choose to forego the series if the decision rests soley on him. Shami, who has played nine Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 games after his Ranji Trophy comeback, himself "feels" that he is not ready to take the rigours of red ball cricket right now. As per a BCCI source, Shami may choose to preserve himself for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the subsequent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, where he has picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 10 crore.
Shubman Gill admitted that the fall of wickets at the other end affected his game in the Adelaide Test but expressed confidence that the Indian batting group would deliver a stronger first-innings effort in what is now effectively a three-match series. Gill didn't play the first Test due to a finger injury but looked good in his brief innings of 31 and 28 during the pink ball Test at Adelaide which India lost by 10 wickets. "As a batting group, we are looking to post a big total first up. That's been the key discussion and every batter has his own game plan," Gill said in the pre-match press conference after the team scored 150 and 180 in the first innings at Perth and Adelaide respectively.
Australian captain Pat Cummins has promised to inundate Indian batters with bouncers at "some point" of the third Test starting in Brisbane on Saturday after employing the strategy with telling effect in the second game in Adelaide. The Australian quicks, particularly Cummins, tormented the India batters with grunt balls in both the innings during the Pink Ball Test that Australia eventually won by 10 wickets to level the five-match series 1-1. "Yeah, potentially. It worked out in the Adelaide Test. It's always in the back of your mind as a bit of a plan B," Cummins told the media in his pre-match press meet.
As the riveting Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 moves to its third chapter, there may be a new twist on the cards. The third Test between India and Australia - to be played at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane - may not even go ahead totally. This is because Brisbane has seen torrential downpours of rain in recent days. In an area that is largely unaffected by rain during this time of the year, the problem could play spoilsport, with rain predicted on all five days of the Test match.
Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not as excited at the prospect of becoming the youngest ever to play in the IPL as he is at being coached by the legendary Rahul Dravid at Rajasthan Royals. The 13-year-old Suryavanshi became the youngest cricketer ever to be bought at an IPL auction last month when he was acquired by Rajasthan Royals who will be coached by Dravid. "I am really glad that I am getting a chance to play in the IPL. I am excited to play under Rahul Dravid sir, more than playing in the IPL, I am happy to play under him.
India batter Shubman Gill says the need to put up a big first innings total has been the talking point among his team's batters ahead of the third Test against Australia and each one of them has devised a plan to make it happen at the Gabba. Gill didn't play the first Test due to a finger injury but looked good in his brief innings of 31 and 28 during the Pink Ball Test at Adelaide which India lost by 10 wickets.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes left-handed batter Travis Head is well on his way to becoming one of the batting greats of the modern-day game. Head was named Player of the Match after scoring a stunning 140 off 141 balls to help Australia beat India by ten wickets in the day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval and help the hosts' level the five-match series at 1-1. Head has been India's nemesis over the last 18 months – making magnificent 163 in the 2023 World Test Championship final and a match-winning 137 in the ODI World Cup final later that year.
