While performing one of his last songs on stage at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin, surprised everyone when he all of sudden mentioned the name of India's star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He said, "Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage. " After thanking the fans, Martin added, "He (Bumrah) says he needs to bowl at me now." Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir was overruled on two major decisions regarding the Champions Trophy 2025 team selection, according to a report by Dainik Jagran. The report claimed that the difference of opinion led to a long meeting between Gambhir, skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar ahead of the team announcement. According to the report, Gambhir wanted Hardik Pandya to be vice-captain but Rohit and Agarkar insisted on Shubman Gill's name. The other bone of contention was the wicket-keeper slot as Gambhir was in favour of including Sanju Samson but Rishabh Pant was ultimately chosen thanks to the backing of Rohit and Agarkar.
Following the aftermath of India's loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with a 10-point guideline. Media reports claimed that the decision was taken after consultation with head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the guidelines are aimed to allegedly end the "star culture" in the team.
