Dean Elgar says friendships will be put aside when they come up against in-form New Zealand batsman Devan Conway in the first of two Tests at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Feb. 17. Johannesburg-born Conway made his Test bow against England at Lords last year and has been in sensational form since, with three hundreds and two fifties in his nine innings to date.
From fans' speculating about who will go for how much on social media to journalists and pundits trying to analyse what the strategy of the teams will be at the auction tables, the buzz around the IPL mega auctions is huge this time, as 590 short-listed players will be going under the hammer this time. It has also been learnt that the franchises have been conducting mock auctions so that they are prepared in every sense when the market for the biggest player sale opens. The 8 older franchises were asked to retain not more than 4 players and release the rest ahead of the auction. For some teams like the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings this was a tough thing to do because over the years multiple players became synonymous with these teams, but some had to be let go of. The teams had to make some tough calls, while for others the choice was simple, because they were ready to build their teams afresh again.
With a set of four core players already retained, Delhi Capitals will look to pick cricketers who can add more balance to the squad, says assistant coach Pravin Amre, who is expecting a lot of competition in the IPL auction on Saturday. The IPL auction is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. The Delhi Capitals have retained four players -- wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, spinner Axar Patel, opener Prithvi Shaw and South African pacer Anrich Nortje.
Sir Andrew Strauss believes the decision to drop James Anderson and Stuart Broad will help the England team develop but insisted they were not too strong personalities for Joe Root to manage.

The sight of Rishabh Pant walking out to open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the India vs West Indies 2nd ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad took many surprise. It was the first time Pant was given an opportunity to bat at the top of the order in the 50-over format. The move drew eyeballs even more because KL Rahul, who had missed the first ODI due to personal reasons, was back in the XI. Pant took his time early on but just when he was looking set, he played a loose shot, trying to drag an Odean Smith delivery from way outside the off-stump to end up giving his wicket away for 18. After the match, which India won by 44 runs to seal the three-match series, captain Rohit Sharma revealed the reason behind promoting Pant as an opener.
Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch has endorsed Andrew McDonald as Justin Langer's permanent replacement and parroted the view of his Test counterpart Pat Cummins by saying the next coach must be "more collaborative".
