Sachin Tendulkar has congratulated Virat Kohli ahead of his 100th Test appearance, saying that he made an immense contribution to Indian cricket by motivating the next generation. "Congratulations on your 100th Test appearance. What a terrific achievement! It has been fantastic watching you over the years. Numbers will always have their own story, but your real strength is that you have been able to motivate the next generation and this is your immense contribution to the Indian cricket," said Tendulkar in a video posted by BCCI on Twitter. Tendulkar recalled that the first time the senior Indian cricket team had heard of Kohli was in 2008 in Australia.
India head coach Rahul Dravid paid a glowing tribute to Virat Kohli on the eve of the latter's 100th Test match. Kohli will reach the landmark when India take on Sri Lanka in the first of a two-match Test series at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali starting Friday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday shared a video of Dravid's tribute to Kohli. "It's an achievement Virat Kohli can be very proud of. He has had a lot of pressure, lot of expectation around him. He has always delivered. He averages over 50 in 100 Test matches, succeeded in various conditions all over the world. And only if you do that, can you actually achieve something like a 100 Test matches," Dravid said of Kohli.
The decision of Proteas captain Dean Elgar to bat first in the second Test against New Zealand speaks volumes about his character and the type of leader he is.
Mithali Raj will be eager to get her hands on a maiden title in what would be her last hurrah for India at the world stage, Heather Knight will hope to defend it while Meg Lanning seems primed to lead Australia to a seventh crown when the ICC Women's World Cup gets underway in Mount Maunganui on Friday. The tournament, which was postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be played across six venues with the ICC deciding that teams will stay in a 'managed environment' instead of stringent bio-bubbles. The marquee event will be played in the league format, where all eight teams will face each other once with the top four sides qualifying for the semifinals.
cricket captain Pat Cummins did not reveal the makeup of his team for the opening Test against Pakistan but said playing two spinners remained an option in Rawalpindi on Friday. Veteran Nathan Lyon remains Australia's frontline spinner for their first tour of Pakistan in 24 years. The tourists, however, are tempted to field a second spinner on a pitch where Cummins expects decent turn even if not from the very first session. "I don't have an XI yet. We're pretty sure but we just want to have another look at the wicket," Cummins told a media conference on the eve of the match. "We have got a fair idea of what we want to do but don't want to make the call too early without fully knowing what the wicket is."
