Delhi Capitals have fluffed their lines during a few chases and the current mid-table "congestion" only means that they will have to win their remaining five games while checking out RCB's results, senior opener David Warner said on Thursday. DC are currently seventh in the standings with eight points from nine games but with another five rounds left for a few teams and four for some of the others, save Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, no team is sure of securing a top four berth. Between slots fourth and ninth, teams are locked between 10 to 6 points and it can change in a matter of two games. "Moving forward from where we are, we've obviously got to win every game to make it to the finals. There's a strong competition, two teams we have got to come against - Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are pretty much similar points to us," Warner said ahead of their match against Kane Williamson's men. "We could get that upper hand if we beat Sunrisers. We then go into the top four, but obviously, we need RCB to start losing as well. It's quite a congested table, but exciting for the rest of the tournament," he added.
Indian Premier League (IPL) has entered its most exciting week as the battle for playoffs has intensified. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will once again face southern rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the experts are anticipating a mouth-watering contest. In what would be a test by fire, the RCB will take on the CSK for the second chapter of the 'Southern derby' this season in a desperate bid to keep their campaign afloat. Despite a great start to the tournament, RCB slipped to three consecutive defeats.
Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has conceded that the team cannot look "too far ahead", given that the defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions have lost six of the nine games this season and are currently ninth on the points table, just above Mumbai Indians. The four-time IPL champions' campaign has floundered, chiefly because of the inconsistent batting at the top of the order, and they would be looking to put it across Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MCA stadium here on Wednesday when the teams clash for the second time this season. Hussey, who is a long-timer with CSK -- previously as a player and now as batting coach, would be eyeing a second win against RCB after winning the opening encounter against them in the 'Southern Derby' by 23 runs last month. CSK had then put 216 on the board.
Amidst back-to-back games and relentless pressure of performances and results in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Rajasthan Royals' (RR) players Ravichandran Ashwin and Yashasvi Jaiswal got themselves some off time to play a game of chess together. Both players were spotted in the middle of an intense game as RR posted on their official social media handles with a caption that read: "Prof Ashwin ke daayein haath ka khel. #RoyalsFamily | @ashwinravi99 | @yashasvi_."
India under new captain Rohit Sharma finished the 2021-22 season as the world's number one ranked T20 team after a string of impressive performances at home but were a good nine points behind Australia in the annual Test rankings released by ICC on Wednesday. The 'Black Caps' from New Zealand finished the last season as the world No.1 ODI team with the cut-off date being May 4, 2022. The England versus India series that began in 2021, will be included in the rankings once the final postponed Test is completed.
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been struggling for runs this season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Apart from his fifty in the last game against Gujarat Titans (GT) and a masterful knock of 48 runs earlier in the tournament versus Mumbai Indians (MI), Kohli has mostly been out of form. The right hand batter has so far scored 186 runs in 10 matches at a below-par average of 20.67 in IPL 2022. Going by the statistics, former RCB batter AB de Villiers had a word of advice for Kohli while talking to AFP.
Sunil Gavaskar has returned a government plot allotted to him in Mumbai 33 years ago to set up a cricket academy, an official from the Maharashtra housing agency MHADA said on Wednesday. State Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad had last year expressed displeasure over Gavaskar not utilising the plot in suburban Bandra, where a cricket academy was proposed, even after 30 years of the allotment.
