Swashbuckling former all-rounder Andrew Symonds has been killed in a car crash, Cricket Australia said Sunday, in another tragic blow for the sport after the recent deaths of fellow greats Shane Warne and Rod Marsh. The 46-year-old, who played 26 Tests and 198 one-day internationals for Australia from 1998 to 2009, was involved in a single-car accident outside Townsville in Queensland state on Saturday night. Police said emergency services attempted to revive the driver and sole occupant, but he died from his injuries after the car left the road and rolled.
Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer was all praise for his team's "outstanding mindset" during its 54-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad as the players had nothing to lose at this stage of the tournament. KKR remained in playoff contention, albeit with a slim chance but what Iyer liked was that his team was able to bring their 'A' game to the fore. "The mindset we came up in this game, it was outstanding. All the boys did the right things, played fearless cricket. Everything panned out really well," Iyer said after the match. "We have nothing to lose now. We haven't played our A-game yet, that's what I spoke today before the game," Iyer said.
Adam Gilchrist about Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds, who died in a car crash late on Saturday, best expressed the sentiments of the cricketing world over the passing of a well-loved cricketer. Gilchrist was joined by Symonds's other ICC World Cup 2003 squad mates -- fast bowler Jason Gillespie and opening batter Matthew Hayden -- who took to Twitter to express shock and dismay.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Day 1, Live Score Updates: The attention would be on how Bangladesh plays on their home soil whent they square off against Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series, beginning Sunday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. This series is a part of the World Test Championship so crucial points are at stake for both the teams. Ahead of the first Test, the hosts were given a big blow as Shakib Al Hasan had tested positive for COVID-19, but he has now recovered and is available for the Test match. The focus would also be on how Dimuth Karunaratne's side plays in the series, as they have a very well balanced outfit for the two Tests. (SCORECARD)
