Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins has played down the impact of his longstanding hip injury, saying he is hopeful it will heal fully over time as he continues to manage it on tour in Sri Lanka. Cummins left the Indian Premier League early to recover from the strain and was rested from the Twenty20 series but returned in Australia's two-wicket win in the first one-day match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Tuesday. Australia's white ball captain, Aaron Finch, revealed this week that Cummins had been carrying the injury for more than a year.
After two disappointing outings in the first two T20 Internationals (T20Is) against South Africa, Yuzvendra Chahal was back to his very best as India thumped South Africa by 48 runs in the third match to keep the series alive. Sports minister Anurag Thakur and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir lavished praise on "golden boy" Neeraj Chopra after the star thrower created a new national record on Tuesday. Neeraj Chopra, the India's Olympic gold medallist, set a new national record and finished with a silver medal with a throw of 89.30 metres at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. Neeraj bettered his own previous national record of 88.07 meters which he had set in Patiala in March last year. "Golden Great @Neeraj_chopra1 does it again! Neeraj Chopra threw 89.30 metres at Paavo Nurmi Games to create a new National Record ! Absolutely THRILLED You've got to see his throw," Anurag Thakur tweeted.
BCCI Apex Council member Shantha Rangaswamy on Wednesday lauded the cricket board and its secretary Jay Shah for increasing the pension of former Test and first-class players along with retired umpires. BCCI has doubled the pension of former first-class and Test cricketers with those earning Rs 15,000 going up to Rs 30,000 and those with Rs 37,500 being upgraded to Rs 60,000 bracket.
