Not Angelo Mathews, Sourav Ganguly Would've Been 1st Timed Out Dismissal, But Then South Africa Great Did This... - Watch

Angelo Mathews became part of cricket history on Monday as the former Sri Lanka captain became the first batter in international cricket to be 'timed out'. The incident happened in Delhi during Sri Lanka's match against Bangladesh. After Sadeera Samarawickrama had just lost his wicket, Mathews took his time striding out to the crease and arrived to take strike after the stipulated two-minute mark. Time further passed as he suffered an issue with his helmet strap. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for the time out and the umpires obliged. Gambhir took to X, formerly Twitter to express his views on the entire incident.

Cricket World Cup 2023: 'Timed Out' Appeal Not Shakib Al Hasan's Idea. Bangladesh Skipper's Huge Revelation

Angelo Mathews became the first cricketer in the history of international cricket to be dismissed 'timed out' during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Mathews was not ready to face his first ball within two minutes of the previous dismissal and the umpire had no option other than giving him out following an appeal from Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan. Following the incident, Mathews has slammed the entire ordeal and Shakib has been criticised by fans and experts. However, Shakib revealed after the match that the appeal was not originally his idea.

Shakib Al Hasan Out Of Bangladesh's Cricket World Cup 2023 Campaign. Here's The Reason

Just a day after the 'timed out controversy' involving Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews and Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, the latter has been ruled out of his team's final World Cup match due to an injury. Bangladesh are scheduled to take on the mighty Australia in their final World Cup fixture but Shakib would not be a part of the team for that fixture, having fractured a finger on his left hand. Though Bangladesh are already out of the World Cup semi-final race, they are still fighting for a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

From outside, Virat Kohli's record equalling 101 off 121 balls against South Africa on Sunday might look a bit laborious, but Indian captain Rohit Sharma termed the innings as one that suited the conditions and the match situation. Kohli's 49th ODI hundred paved the way for India's 326 for five on a slightly diffident Eden Gardens pitch, which proved way over the par in the end. "If you look at how we have played in the last three games, we have adapted better. Today, we needed Kohli to go out there and play to the situation. We then knew we had to keep it in the right areas (with the ball) and let the pitch do the rest," said Rohit during the post-match presentation.
