Pat Cummins led from the front as Australia blew away Pakistan on Friday to win the second Test in Melbourne, while also taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match series. Australia captain Cummins bagged five wickets and 10 in the match as the hosts won by 79 runs after an extended final session on Day 4. The lanky pacer struck three times after Tea, before Mitchell Starc took two wickets in as many balls to wrap up Pakistan's innings.
Captain Pat Cummins declared himself delighted at the end of a landmark year for Australian cricket as his 10-wicket haul in the second test win over Pakistan in Melbourne secured his entry into an elite band of bowlers.
Former England cricket team skipper Michael Vaughan called the Indian cricket team "one of the most underachieving sports teams in the world" following their heavy loss in the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion on Thursday. India were completely outplayed by the hosts and it meant that their wait for a Test series win in South Africa continues following the defeat. “Do you think, in terms of cricket, India are one of the most underachieving sports teams in the world?” Vaughan asked fellow expert and former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh during their discussion on FOX Sports.
Former Indian cricket team opener Gautam Gambhir is no stranger to controversies. Gambhir is well known for his fiery comments and straightforward analysis which sometimes leads to conversations on social media. During a recent Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter), a fan ended up asking Gambhir why he makes such 'controversial statements'. "Why you always give so much controversial statements? #AskGG," he posted. In response, Gambhir came up with his blunt style of answering.
Virat Kohli emerged as the lone fighter as India looked to put runs on the board against a formidable South Africa pace attack Thursday. Kohli's 76-run knock was the highest score by an Indian batter in the second innings, that too by a big margin, as the batting unit crumbled against Proteas pacers. On Day 3 of the first Test, skipper Rohit Sharma knew that Virat's dismissal meant that it was all over for the team. Yet, he went ahead and gave Kohli his due credit for the valiant knock.
Ajinkya Rahane uploaded a video on social media from his practice session. In the four-second clip, the right-handed batter could be seen playing a flick shot on a fuller delivery. "No rest days," was the caption of the video. It is interesting to note that the post from Rahane came after the Indian cricket team suffered an embarrassing loss to South Africa in the first Test match in Centurion. The Proteas put a stunning all-round display to hand India an innings and 32-run defeat.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz's century powered Afghanistan to clinch a 72-run win over United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the first T20I match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday. After winning the toss, UAE opted to field first but their decision did not go in their favour after the hosts' bowling attack failed to keep a check on Afghanistan's run rate in Sharjah. Afghan opener Hazratullah Zazai (13 runs from 16 balls) failed to make a mark but Gurbaz (100 runs from 52 balls) shined against the UAE bowling attack to post 203/3 for the Afghans. Ibrahim Zadran (59 runs from 43 balls) also played a crucial role by making a solid partnership with Gurbaz.
