Having bowled a magical spell of 4 for 14, Kaif stepped up with the bat at number 9 with an unbeaten 45 to help Bengal take the first-innings lead of 128 runs against his home side Uttar Pradesh on day two of their Ranji Trophy Group B match in Kanpur on Saturday. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra wants senior Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, saying that the pitches at the venue will be such that there will be better chances at scoring runs in the first six overs of the innings. Rohit and Virat will be playing together in a T20I match for the first time in over one year since India's crushing loss to England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 when they meet Afghanistan in the second T20I at Indore on Sunday. India leads the series 1-0.
Star India batter Virat Kohli opened up on Sunday about his bond with Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic and how their journey of friendship and mutual admiration started. In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Virat said that his talks with Djokovic started when he happened to check his text to him by chance, after once trying to say "hello" to the star tennis player. "I got in touch with Novak very organically. I was just looking at his Instagram profile once and happened to press his "Message" button. I thought I would say him 'Hello, maybe.' Then I saw a message from him on my DM already. I never saw it myself.
Rohit Sharma's outburst over Shubman Gill during the first T20I against Afghanistan has become the new talk of the town. In the chase of 159, Rohit played a delivery from Fazalhaq Farooqi to mid-off and called for a single. However, Gill was watching the ball and did not move resulting in Rohit getting run-out without scoring a single run. After getting dismissed, Rohit expressed his displeasure towards Gill and even uttered some explicit words. Many former cricketers and experts have given their take on this incident and now Rohan Gavaskar has also given his opinion.
One of the greatest players of his generation, Ravichandran Ashwin has done wonders in Test cricket, climbing the ladder of success with his exceptional wicket-taking abilities. But, there are those who feel Ashwin isn't the sort of player who should be banked upon much in white-ball cricket. Despite Ashwin's rather topsy-turvy career in ODIs and T20Is, he has been part of several World Cups (in both formats). Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, when asked about Ashwin's white-ball career, was quick to say that the veteran spinner "doesn't deserve" a place in India's T20I and ODI sides.
