Unrest In New Zealand Cricket Team? Ex-Star Says Pacer Was 'Forced' To Retire

New Zealand's former star batter Ross Taylor has suggested that fast bowler Neil Wagner's retirement was "forced", hinting at the possibility of unrest in the Kiwi camp. Told that he would not be picked in the XI in the series against Australia, Wagner recently announced his retirement during an emotional press conference before the start of the first Test. The 37-year-old Wagner, however, did take the field during the first Test as a substitute fielder and carried the drinks on occasions. "I think it all makes sense a little bit now. There's no sugarcoating it. I think it's a forced retirement. If you listen to Wagner's press conference, he was retiring, but it was after this last Test match. So he did make himself available," Taylor said while speaking on ESPN's Around the Wicket podcast.

Set to complete a century of Test matches, England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow on Tuesday said reaching the landmark "means hell of a lot" to him given that he has had to wade through testing times. The 34-year-old will become the 17th Englishman to get a 100th Test cap when he steps out for the fifth and final Test against India starting in Dharamsala on Thursday and it will be an emotional week for Bairstow, who endured a tough childhood and a long career-threatening injury.

Pakistan YouTuber and cricket expert Wasay Habib launched a fiery rant over comparisons between Babar Azam and legendary Indian cricket team batter Sachin Tendulkar. During an analysis on GTV News, Wasay was asked about some ex-Pakistan cricketers comparing Babar to Sachin but the cricket expert was not convinced. Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma arrived in style for the Dharamsala Test against England starting Thursday as he landed at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in a helicopter. The rest of the team had already arrived on Sunday, but Rohit joined them on Tuesday and he also attended an event with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur in Bilaspur and played cricket with his fans. The fifth Test match between India and England is a dead rubber as the Rohit-led side has already taken an unassailable 3-1 lead over the visitors thanks to a brilliant victory in the fourth Test in Ranchi.

A ball-boy stole the limelight in the Pakistan Super League on Monday, taking a stunning catch beyond the boundary rope. Though six runs were credited to the batter's account for clearing the rope, it was the ball-boy who drew plaudits from fans in the stadium, as well as Kiwi star Colin Munro, for his diving catch. Munro, who was placed near the boundary rope where the ball-boy took the catch, was amazed to see the little child's effort and decided to give him a warm hug.

"That's The Hardest Time Of My Life": Pat Cummins On Mother's Death

Australia captain Pat Cummins is yet to come to terms with the death of his mother and described flying to India for a Test series as she received treatment at home as the "hardest time of my life". Cummins' mother, Maria, died of cancer last year. "I knew when I was getting on that plane that I was going to have to come back in a couple of weeks pretty much," Cummins said in an interview for the Imperfects podcast. Cummins was in India for a Test series but he returned home to be by his ailing mother's side as she received palliative care.

A rather bizarre incident took place in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Monday after UP Warriorz' Chamari Athapaththu was controversialy dismissed LBW. Facing a leg-spinner, Athapaththu was hit on the pads by Georgia Wareham of Royal Challengers Bangalore. While the on-field umpire gave the decision in the favour of the batting team, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana decided to go for a review. Surprisingly, the ball-tracking showed that the delivery from Wareham would've hit the stumps, suggesting it was a googly and not a leg-spinner.
