India's celebrated Paralympic gold medalist shooter, Avani Lekhara, successfully defended her gold medal at the 10m Air Rifle Women's SH1 final at the Paralympic Games 2024. Avani, who first brought the country laurels at the Tokyo Paralympics, claimed the No. 1 spot yet again in Paris, with compatriot Mona Agarwal finishing third, earning the nation a bronze medal. Avani remains one of India's most decorated Paralympians, and has now earned a rare feat of fetching her second gold medal from the Paralympic Games.
India's doubles players made a promising start at the US Open with Davis Cupper N Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri progressing to the men's doubles second round with their respective partners in New York. Three Pakistan hockey players and a physiotherapist have been banned for life for attempting to seek asylum in a European country after slipping away without the knowledge of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. PHF secretary-general Rana Mujahid confirmed on Thursday that Murtaza Yaqoob, Ihtesham Aslam and Abdur Rahman, along with physiotherapist Waqas, had gone to the Netherlands and Poland last month for the Nations Cup. "When the team returned home and we announced a training camp for the Asian Champions Trophy, the three informed us that due to domestic issues they wouldn't be able to attend the camp," Mujahid said.
