Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum hailed his team for the character it showed in bouncing back from five successive losses to come up with a clinical all-round performance in the seven-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL)at the Wankhede Stadium here. After starting with a win against defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the opener on March 26, KKR lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore but won the next two matches against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. They then went through a five-match losing run, going down twice to Delhi Capitals and once each to Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. Their second match of the season against Rajasthan Royals ended that run of defeats as they won by seven wickets.
Rajasthan Royals' (RR) captain Sanju Samson considered his batters' inability to score boundaries in the death overs on a slow pitch as the reason for his side's seven-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Monday. Samson said with his batters failing to master the KKR bowling on a slow track at the Wankhede Stadium, they fell short by 15-20 runs. "I think the wicket was a bit slow and they bowled really well, but with the batting we have, I would have liked to score a few more boundaries at the end. I think we were short 15-20 runs," said Samson in the post-match presentation on Monday.
Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer on Monday lavished praise on Rinku Singh for showing "outstanding" calmness under pressure, calling him an "asset" for the team. Singh smashed an unbeaten 23-ball 42 studded with six boundaries and a six as he and Nitish Rana (48 not out) chased down a 153-run target with ease for a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals. "I was talking to my teammates in the dressing room and was like, the way he's maintaining his calm even in such pressure situations playing his second or third game, it's outstanding," Shreyas said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
