Opting to bat after winning the toss, India's top guns failed to fire as the visitors slipped to 81 for five, before reaching 246 for eight at the close of play. Bharat shone during his 158-minute stay in the middle before rain brought an early end to the day's proceedings at Grace Road. In all, the 28-year-old batter from Andhra hit eight fours and a six while facing 111 balls.
Glenn Maxwell could make a shock return to Test cricket next week after the injury-plagued Australians added the white-ball star to their squad to face Sri Lanka. With Travis Head in doubt and Ashton Agar all but ruled out of the Test series opener in Galle on Wednesday, Maxwell is in the mix to wear his Baggy Green for the first time in five years as per cricket.com.au.
"This hundred is because of my abbu (father), his sacrifices and holding my hand when I could have been down and out," a teary-eyed Sarfaraz Khan choked in front of scribes while dedicating his best century to father and coach Naushad Khan. Those who follow Mumbai cricket closely know how tough Naushad is on his sons Sarfaraz and Mushir (also in Mumbai squad), who don't have a life beyond cricket. So is the dream India call-up on the cards now? His eyes welled up while answering the question after his century lifted Mumbai to 374 against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy final here.
LEEDS, England :Paceman Jamie Overton marked his England debut with a wicket and Jack Leach took a freak wicket just before tea as New Zealand slumped to 123 for five on the first day of the third and final test on Thursday.
Kemar Roach marks out his run in the second Test against Bangladesh, which starts at the Daren Sammy Stadium on Friday, he will do so knowing that he is just one wicket short of joining a very select group of West Indian bowlers. The 33-year-old Barbadian pace bowler goes into the Test with 249 wickets to his name, the same as a legend of the 1970s and 80s, Michael Holding. One more scalp and Roach will become just the sixth West Indies bowler to join the '250 Club', following Courtney Walsh (519 wickets), Curtly Ambrose (405), Malcolm Marshall (376), Lance Gibbs (309) and Joel Garner (259).
Bangladesh has ruled out two more cricketers in its ongoing West Indies tour with all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin and batsman Yasir Ali both struck from the squad. Saifuddin was pulled out after failing to regain his fitness for the series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said Thursday. "We feel that at the moment he has not reached the bowling fitness level required to cope with the intensity of international cricket," BCB chief physician Debashis Chowdhury said in a statement. The 25-year-old last played an international match in October 2021. Yasir Ali was also ruled out of the tour's T20 and ODI matches after failing to recover from a back injury sustained during a three-day warm-up match in Antigua, the BCB said Wednesday.
