As the NBA season marches on we are in for a jolly Christmas Day slate with five games on the schedule. The 298th regular season meeting between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics is the game I'm most looking forward to.
If I'm placing bets on a Sunday, I'm not looking at full game spreads or totals. Those are efficient markets that have been bet into all week. Instead, I'm looking for the obscure. It's my specialty, anyway. It's what I build statistical models around to try to find an edge. If there's an advantage to be found now, it's in small markets.
Saturday's NBA slate features 13 games to choose from. However, I am most interested in the game between the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks. The Bucks are 2-0 against the Knicks this season and are riding a six-game winning streak. Saturday's game in New York will be the first of a stretch of seven straight road games. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard finally appear to be in sync. Over the past 15 games, the Bucks rank third in net rating (the net rating of a team indicates how well they score points and how well they prevent their opponents from scoring)… which leads me to my first recommendation.
Six games are on Friday's NBA slate, including a Washington Wizards-Golden State Warriors matchup on ESPN, and there's a lot to like from a betting perspective.
The NBA is in action again Thursday night with an eight-game slate for bettors to choose from. The game I'm looking forward to the most has the Indiana Pacers traveling to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies. Ja Morant delivered a superb performance in his first game following his suspension, posting 34 points, six rebounds and eight assists Tuesday against the Pelicans. Against a Pacers team that ranks 30th in points allowed per 100 possessions, he is also well positioned to surpass 30.5 points on Thursday night. A number of Grizzlies `backcourt players are injured, including Marcus Smart. Another Memphis player has been negatively impacted by Morant's return, which leads me to my first recommendation.
The NBA is back on Tuesday night with a small four game slate that bettors can choose from.
Saturday night's NBA slate features 10 games to choose from. However, perhaps the most interesting game on the slate is the Denver Nuggets vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder as the Nuggets look to extend their win streak to four games. In the first meeting between these teams, Nuggets dominated the Thunder 128-95 on the road. Oklahoma City should be looking for redemption on Saturday.
