England all-rounder Ben Stokes has announced that he is retiring from one-day international cricket.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes on Monday announced that he will be retiring from ODI cricket and will be playing his last 50-over format game on Tuesday against South Africa in Durham. Stokes announcement comes as a surprise. The all-rounder made the announcement on his Twitter account, posting a lengthy statement.
England's Test captain Ben Stokes has been rested from the home T20 series against South Africa as part of the team's workload management. Stokes, who is currently playing the ODI series against India, will also feature in the 50-over games against South Africa beginning July 19 before being rested from the T20 series starting July 27.
England have been in fine form this summer, winning all four Test matches they have played. Coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes have made a formidable partnership in the longest format of the game and under them, the Three Lions have played an attacking brand of cricket, which the English press has labelled as 'Bazball'. England defeated India in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston and now Test coach Brendon McCullum has termed 'Bazball' a "silly term".
The fifth rescheduled Test between India and England at Edgbaston, that ended on Tuesday, was marred with reports of fans' complaints about racist abuse. Warwickshire, the English county whose headquarters are at the Birmingham ground, have announced several measures in a bid to stamp out racism after several fans reported incidents of abuse during England's recent Test match against India at Edgbaston. Police have already launched inquiries into allegations of racist remarks made on Monday, the fourth day of fifth Test, which ended with England winning a dramatic match by seven wickets.
It may sound more like a superhero alias than a role in a cricket team, but Ben Stokes has revealed how ‘the nighthawk’ exemplifies England’s mission to change the game.
Joe Root has revealed England captain Ben Stokes has inspired his record-breaking Test team to play “like rock stars”.
Riding on unbeaten tons from Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, England scripted history as the team pulled off their highest-successful chase in longest format to beat by seven wickets at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Chasing a total of 378, Root and Bairstow's 269-run partnership helped England record their fourth successive chase in Test cricket. The Ben Stokes-led side has been playing some aggressive brand of cricket, termed 'Bazball', since the appointment of Brendon McCullum as head coach of the team.
