Ahead of the 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI in Mumbai on Tuesday, there were enough speculations about the issue of International Cricket Council (ICC) chairmanship and whether India was to send a candidate for the top post. More so, after Sourav Ganguly's exit as the BCCI president was all but decided and initial reports had claimed that the former India captain may be fielded by the BCCI. However, sources have confirmed that there was no discussion to field a candidate for ICC chairman at the AGM. The last date for filing the nominations for the ICC top job is October 20.

The issue of ICC chairmanship will be up for discussion when the BCCI holds it Annual General Meeting (AGM), where former India cricketer Roger Binny will replace Sourav Ganguly as the new Board President in Mumbai on Tuesday. The election of the next set of office-bearers will be a mere formality as all are set to be elected unopposed. However, the members will deliberate if BCCI should field a candidate for the ICC chair or support incumbent Greg Barclay for a second term. The last date for filing the nominations for the ICC top job is October 20. The ICC Board will meet from November 11-13 in Melbourne.

BCCI Could Lose Rs 955 Crore If ICC Doesn't Get Tax Exemption From Government For Hosting 2023 World Cup: Report

The BCCI could lose around Rs 955 crore (USD 116 million) if the central government sticks to its decision to levy 21.84 percent tax surcharge on ICC's broadcast revenue from the 2023 ODI World Cup, according to a Board report. India is to host next year's 50-over showpiece in October-November. Tax surcharge refers to "an additional charge, fee, or tax that is added to the cost of a good or service beyond the initially quoted price". A surcharge is often added to an existing tax and is not included in the stated price of the good or service. As per ICC norm, the host nation is required to get tax exemption from the government for hosting tournaments organised by the global body.

"Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position," the BCCI source said.
