Cricket West Indies on Thursday announced the 12-member squad for the first test match against Bangladesh. The two-match series will start on June 16 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Bangladesh appointed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as Test captain for a third time on Thursday after Mominul Haque quit following a poor run of form. Bangladesh Cricket Board also named batsman Liton Das the new vice-captain ahead of a two-Test series in the West Indies later this month. "They will be in the positions until a further decision is made," BCB president Nazmul Hassan told a press conference. Mominul stepped down as Test captain on Tuesday. The 30-year-old left-hander has scored 162 runs in six Test matches in 2022, averaging 16.20.

Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque said he was stepping down from his position Tuesday to focus on his batting, after a poor run of form so far this year. The 30-year-old announced his decision during a meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chiefs at the home of board president Nazmul Hassan. His batting has come under heavy criticism after the country's Test series loss to Sri Lanka earlier this month. There have been calls for his resignation ahead of next month's tour of the West Indies.

Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque said that his side needs to be mentally strong even after losing against Sri Lanka by 10 wickets, in the second test on Friday. Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the second Test of the two-match series, at Shere Bangla stadium in Mirpur. "It's all about the mental thing, need to be mentally strong if we're to come back in the next series. We have to look after our bowlers, especially the pacers," said Mominul in a post-match presentation.

After registering a 10-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second Test, Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne dedicated the victory to his fellow countrymen. Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the second Test of the two-match series, at Shere Bangla National Stadium on Friday. "We would like to thank the Sri Lankans back home, this win is for them, the country is going through troubled times at the moment," said Dimuth in a post-match presentation.
