JAKARTA: Badminton world number one Viktor Axelsen beat HS Prannoy on Saturday (Jun 17) to secure his spot in the Indonesia Open final, but South Korea's rising star An Se-young crashed out.
Star Indian men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty overcame a game deficit to beat Min Hyuk Kang and Seung Jae Seo of Korea in a tough battle to enter the final of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event on Saturday. The seventh seeded Indian duo had to fight it out for one hour and seven minutes to defeat the unseeded Korean pair 17-21 21-19 21-18 in the semifinal. By virtue of this win, the Indians now enjoy a 3-2 head-to-head record over Kang and Seo. Satwik and Chirag, ranked sixth in the world, will face the winner of the other semifinal between Indonesia's Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan and second seeds Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh of Malaysia in their maiden World Tour Super 1000 final.

However, world championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth bowed out of the men's singles competition after going down fighting to China's Li Shi Feng in the quarterfinals. The first Indian to take the court, Srikanth lost 14-21 21-14 12-21 in one hour and nine minutes against world No. 10 Feng. The win enabled Feng to restore parity on head-to-head record against Srikanth, which stands at 1-1 now.

Srikanth lost 14-21 21-14 12-21 in one hour and nine minutes against world No.10 Feng to exit from the competition. The win enabled Feng to restore parity on head-to-head record against Srikanth, which stands at 1-1 now. In the battle between Srikanth and Feng, both of whom were unseeded here, the Chinese came out on top in the first game despite getting off the blocks slowly. It was world No.22 Srikanth, who opened up an early 2-0 lead before Feng bounced back with five straight points with Indian guilty of committing too many unforced errors.

Kidambi Srikanth used his vast experience to quell the challenge of Lakshya Sen in straight games in an all-Indian second round duel to progress to the quarterfinals while it was curtains for double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu at the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event here on Thursday. It was a hard-fought battle between the two Indians but Srikanth bagged the crucial moments with his calmness and experience to win 21-17 22-20 over Lakshya in the men's singles match that lasted 45 minutes. The win ensured Srikanth's dominance over his younger countrymate as he took his head-to-head record to 3-0 over Lakshya.
