Indian challenge ended at the French Open badminton tournament with PV Sindhu and Asian Games gold medallist men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowing out in the second round at Rennes in France on Thursday. Taking the court first, double Olympic medallist shuttler PV Sindhu was leading by a game before she conceded her second round women's singles match against Thailand's Supanida Katethong due to a knee injury in the BWF World Tour Super 750 event. Sindhu pocketed the first game 21-18 and the second game was levelled at 1-1 when the Indian felt discomfort on her left knee at the Glaz Arena.
India Create History In Asian Para Games, Takes Tally To Record 80 Medals With 2 Days Left
Indian para athletes on Thursday created history by winning the highest number of medals in the Asian Para Games, taking country's tally to 80, including 18 gold medals. India have now gone past the earlier best of 72 achieved in the 2018 edition in Indonesia. India's medal tally read 18 gold, 23 silver and 39 bonze, and the count will keep on increasing till the end of the fourth day of competitions. With two more days left in the Games, the country is on course to achieving its target of 100 medals in this Hangzhou edition.

India's ace shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen bowed out of the French Open Super 750 tournament after losing their respective men's singles matches Rennes on Wednesday. The first to take to the court at the Glaz Arena was Srikanth, who was shown the door by Toma Junior Popov of France. Srikanth lost the round of 32 match 17-21 15-21 in 44 minutes. It was an easy victory for the world number 25 French player as he punished the 22nd ranked Srikanth for his error-prone showing. Heading into this match, Srikanth had a 3-1 advantage over his opponent in head-to-head.

Earlier, newly-crowned world number one pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the men's doubles second round.

Newly-crowned world number one pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the men's doubles second round of the French Open Super 750 badminton tournament with a straight game win on Tuesday. The Asian Games gold medallists, who had skipped the Denmark Open super 750 last week, beat world no 34 Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar 21-13 21-13 in a lop-sided contest. Satwik and Chirag will next meet three-time world champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia.
