Women's Ashes: Beth Mooney, Darcie Brown Star As Australia Beat England In 1st ODI To Retain Urn

Beth Mooney's 73-run knock was followed up by Darcie Brown's four-wicket haul to help Australia defeat England by 27 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Thursday. With this win, Australia have taken an 8-4 lead in the Women's Ashes and, as a result, have retained the urn. Chasing 206, England got off to a bad start as Tammy Beaumont (3) and Heather Knight (0) were sent back to the pavilion by Darcie Brown in the fourth over of the innings, reducing the visitors to 10/2. Nat Sciver then added 29 runs to the total along with Lauren Winfield Hill. However, this stand was broken in the 11th over by Megan Schutt as she got the better of Winfield Hill (13) and England was reduced to 39/3.

ICC Women's ODI Rankings: Mithali Raj Rises To Second Spot, Alyssa Healy Leads Batting List

West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews has progressed four places to 11th position in the ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings after a fine show in the first two matches of their four match-series against South Africa. Matthews, who grabbed two wickets each in both matches, is the highest-ranked bowler from the West Indies with other off-spinner Anisa Mohammed in 25th place and Shakera Selman 26th. Seam bowler Shamilia Connell has moved up nine slots to 29th after taking three wickets in the two matches. South Africa captain Sune Luus has advanced seven places to joint-34th among bowlers and is up two places to 44th in the batting list, which is now led by Alyssa Healy with Mithali Raj in second place after Lizelle Lee dropped two places to third. Lee, ICC's Women's ODI Player of the Year in 2021, is out of the series due to COVID-19.

Watch: Shikha Pandey's "Ball Of The Century" Sends Twitter Into A Frenzy

India bowler Shikha Pandey bowled a sensational delivery in the second T20I against Australia at the Carrara Oval on Saturday to send Alyssa Healy back to the pavilion. Having set Australia a target of 119 to chase, Shikha opened the bowling for the Indian women's cricket team and dismissed opener Healy on the second ball of the innings. The 32-year-old Indian bowler produced an incredible amount of movement that deceived Healy, who could only watch as it dislodged the bails from the stumps behind her.
