India's Swapna Barman on Thursday tendered an "unconditional apology" for her sensational allegations that she lost out on a bronze medal in the women's heptathlon competition of the ongoing Asian Games to a "transgender" athlete. Swapna, who won the gold medal in the 2018 edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta, alleged that compatriot Nandini Agasara was ineligible to compete in the women's event as she is a "transgender" but later deleted her post from social media. However, she apologised for her remarks on this day through her social media account. "I wish to tender my unconditional apology for my tweet the other day specially to my co-athlete (it) was the sheer disappointment and momentous emotional outburst which made me react in this manner against the ethos of sports and deeply feels sorry everyone for my emotional reaction," Swapna wrote on X.

Indian women's team defeated China 2-1 but the men's side lost to Thailand and Phillipines in its group in regu event of sepaktakraw competition at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Thursday. In women's regu preliminary event, India lost their first Group A match to Vietnam 0-2 (16-21, 10-21) in just 33 minutes but made a comeback beating hosts China 2-1 (8-21, 21-17, 21-15) at the Jinhua Sports Centre Gymnasium. Asian Games 2023: Indian Canoers And Kayakers Move To Semis, Climbers Shine

The Indian climbers started their campaign in boulder and lead events on a positive note as all four advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Games 2023 on Thursday. In the men's qualification match, Aman Verma finished eighth with a combined score of 118.8 (64.8 in boulder and 54 in lead) and advanced to the last four. Bharath Stephen Kamath Pereira followed suit after finishing 13th with a combined score of 97.8 (69.7 in boulder and 28.1 in lead).
