While the top-seeded Indian men's team saw GM Arjun Erigaisi opening the scoring with a win over IM Amartuvshin Ganzorig of Mongolia with black pieces, Vidit S Gujrathi and R Praggnanandhaa added to the points.

India thus set up a marquee gold medal clash with Pakistan, against whom they lost in the pool stage and will seek revenge heading into the final. Abhay Singh started the proceedings for India on a positive note, securing a 3-1 (11-3 12-10 9-11 11-6) win over Muhammad Addeen Idrakie Bin Bahtiar in the opening match. He took 57 minutes to ward off the challenge of Bin Bahtiar.

Indian cyclists Esow Alben and David Beckham Elkatohchoongo finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 7-12 final of the men's Keirin event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. Esow finished his race in +0.651 seconds along with a warning, while Beckham had a timing of +1.096 seconds. Earlier in heat 1 of the semi-final, the Indian duo brought up the rear in the six-man field. While Beckham managed to finish fifth in +0.922, Esow was below him in +2.980, having received a warning.

A dominant India defeated Malaysia 6-0 to register their second consecutive win in the women's hockey competition at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. The Indians continued from where they left against Singapore in their campaign opener and pumped in four goals in the first quarter of the Pool A match. Monika (7th minute) opened the scoring for India before vice-captain Deep Grace Ekka (8th), Navneet Kaur (11th), Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke (15th), Sangita Kumari (24th) and Lalremsiami (50th) also found the back of the net.

India thrashed lowly Nepal 3-0 in the quarterfinals to secure a historic medal after 37 years in the men's team badminton event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. Taking the court first, Lakshya Sen defeated Prince Dahal 21-5 21-8 before Kidambi Srikanth beat Sunil Joshi 21-4 21-13 in the second match. In the third match, Mithun Manjunath edged past Bishnu Katuwal 21-2 21-17 to clinch the tie. The Indian men, who are assured of at least a bronze, will now face the winner of the match between Indonesia and Korea in semifinal for a spot in the gold medal clash.

First Reported Doping Case At Asian Games 2023! Afghanistan Boxer Provisionally Suspended

An Afghanistan boxer has been provisionally suspended for failing a doping test at the Asian Games, the International Testing Agency (ITA) said, the first reported drugs case at the event. The 37-year-old Mohammad Khaibar Nooristani, who was defeated on Monday in the preliminary rounds of the 71kg weight class in Hangzhou, tested positive for two banned substances, the ITA said. Both were anabolic steroids. The boxer was tested four days before his bout but it takes time for positive results to come through.

Pressure will be on Mirabai Chanu to nail the much-awaited 90kg snatch lift for a shot at that elusive Asian Games medal when the weightlifting competitions gets underway in Hangzhou on Saturday. But it will not be an easy task for the Manipuri to find the podium at the continental event, which features lifters from weightlifting powerhouses like China, North Korea and Thailand. Chanu has been a frontrunner in the 49kg event for sometime but the Indian now finds herself outside the 90kg elite club, playing catch up with her rivals.
