Hardik had injured his left ankle while bowling during unbeaten tournament hosts India's World Cup win against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19. The 30-year-old said it was "tough to digest" that he would no longer be part of the team for the tournament. However, Hardik said he'll be cheering for the team, adding that every player will make India proud at this World Cup.
