Durand Cup: Army Red hold Chennaiyin FC 2-2- in injury-time drama

Imphal on Sunday before the teams settled for a 2-2 draw. Till the 89th minute, CFC looked headed for a defeat but a thumping header by German forward Julius Duker turned things around for Thomas Brdaric’s men. But that was just the beginning of the drama. Eight minutes were added on by the referee and a stunning long-ranger from Edwin Vanspaul in the 90+4th minute made it 2-1 for CFC, sparking celebration in the CFC ranks. It was, however, short-lived as Army Red’s indefatigable forward Liton Shil took full advantage of a defensive lapse to score a late equalizer. Chennaiyin played eight new signings — local lad Ajith Kumar, Duker, Fallou Diagne, Jockson Dhas, Sajal Bag, Jiteshwor Singh, Aakash Sangwan and Sliskovic. The game looked evenly poised in the first-half as both teams looked desperate to find the target but their efforts went in vain. Though Chennaiyin created a few genuine chances, the forwards and the midfielders failed to combine when it mattered.

Army Red hold Chennaiyin FC 2-2 in Durand Cup

The group C fixture turned on its head after a barren first 45 minutes as the Reds took the lead through Lethaolen Khongsai (54') which was neutralised by Julius Duker, a minute before the regulation time. Chennaiyin almost had full points when Edwin Vanspaul struck in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time but they could not see through the final minute with Army Red's Liton Shil (90+6') dashing their hopes in a crazy final seven minutes' action. The first half turned out to be a battle for midfield supremacy with both teams forcing each other to play out on the wings.

Watch: England's Barmy Army Shares Hilarious Video Of Bowler Taking A Tumble In Village Cricket

England cricket team's fan group Barmy Army shared a funny cricket video on social media on Sunday. In the shared clip, a fast bowler could be seen taking his run-up to deliver the ball during a cricket match. The regular task didn't turn out as expected as the bowler tumbled at the non-striker's end after delivering the ball, eventually giving rise to a funny moment. While the delivery of the pacer went well off the target, he lost his balance and fell on the pitch only to see his body roll on the surface.
