Asian Games Medallist MR Poovamma Handed 2-year Ban By Anti-Doping Appeal Panel

Senior India quarter-miler and Asian Games medallist MR Poovamma has been handed a two-year ban for flunking a dope test last year as the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel (ADAP) of the NADA overturned a disciplinary panel decision to hand her a three-month suspension. The 32-year-old Poovamma's dope sample collected on February 18 last year, during the Indian Grand Prix I in Patiala, had returned positive for stimulant methylhexaneamine, a specified substance under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code. The Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel in a June order had handed her just three months suspension.

UK Police Appeal For Calm As India-Pakistan Post-Match Disorder Spills Over

The UK police are calling for calm after clashes between fans following an India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match at the end of last month spilled over into “serious disorder” on Saturday and the early hours of Sunday in the city of Leicester in eastern England. Reports circulating on social media claimed the spark this weekend was a protest march, with footage showing police attempting to hold back two sets of crowds as objects such as glass bottles were thrown, and some people could be seen carrying sticks and batons.

FIFA quash appeal to kick Ecuador out of World Cup

The complaint centred around Byron Castillo, a defender who played in eight of Ecuador's qualifiers for the World Cup. The Chilean football federation (FFCH) said there was evidence that Castillo, who plays for Leon in Mexico, was born in Colombia in July 1995 and not in Playas, Ecuador in November 1998. The FFCH alleged "use of a falsified birth certificate, false declaration of age and false nationality". Following a hearing on Thursday, FIFA's Appeal Committee confirmed an earlier ruling by the Disciplinary Committee. "On the basis of the documents presented, the player was to be considered as holding permanent Ecuadorian nationality," FIFA said. The FFCH reacted with fury, saying that Castillo had refused to appear at the hearing. "This is a dark day for football and for the credibility of the system. The footballing world heard a player who helped Ecuador qualify for the FIFA World Cup admit he was born in Colombia and that he gained an Ecuadorian passport using false information. No wonder he refused to participate in the FIFA hearing," said Jorge Yunge, the FFCH general secretary. With just over nine weeks until the opening game on November 20, Chile or Peru can still appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. "I have never seen in my entire life as a lawyer an injustice like this one," said Eduardo Carlezzo, the lawyer for the FFCH. "Sad day for football and for fair play. The message is clear: cheating is allowed. We will appeal to CAS." Ecuador finished fourth in South American World Cup qualifying to secure the last automatic regional berth.

More help needed as funding appeal to help injured EWC rider Gino Rea gets huge response

The funding appeal launched by Gino Rea’s family to help in his ongoing rehabilitation after he suffered serious head injuries during a crash practicing for round three of the FIM Endurance World Championship at Suzuka last month, has received a huge response – but more help is needed. While almost £50,000 has been raised through donations from fans, riders and other well-wishers, the amount is considerably short of the initial target of £125,000, which has been set by the family of the F.C.C. TSR Honda France rider through a GoFundMe online appeal.Follow this link to help Gino Rea:https://www.gofundme.com/f/gino-rea-rehabilitation?utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1&utm_medium=email&utm_source=customer #KeepFightingGino: A family’s appeal for help In a GoFundMe appeal launch earlier this month, a post from Shannon Rea reveals Gino Rea’s plight.
