India captain Jasprit Bumrah only needed two balls to announce his return to international cricket in style. The star bowler, who has been out of action since September last year, struck twice in his first over, dismissing Andy Balbirnie (4) and Lorcan Tucker (0). After being hit for a boundary on his very first delivery, Bumrah rattled Balbirnie's stumps on the very next delivery. On the penultimate delivery of the over, Tucker had no response for Bumrah's pace as he mistimed his scoop and was caught by Sanju Samson.
The wait is finally over as Jasprit Bumrah is all set to return to action when India take on Ireland in the first T20I of the three-match series against Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin. Bumrah, who has been named captain for the series, has been out of action since September last year due to a recurring back issue and had surgery in New Zealand in March earlier this year. Bumrah's return is a timely one for the Indian team, which is set to take part in the Asia Cup, as well as the World Cup on home soil.
Indian opener Devdutt Padikkal on Thursday confirmed he will be out of action for three to four weeks owing to a fracture he sustained in his thumb. Padikkal, who played two T20Is for India in 2021, suffered the injury during the Deodhar Trophy earlier this month. The injury has kept Padikkal away from the ongoing Maharaja KSCA T20 trophy here, for which he was picked by Gulbarga Mystics.

The Letter Before Claim said the Brazilian, now 42, was robbed of the title through actions at the highest level that cost him tens of millions of euros in lost earnings and bonuses. It said Massa had instructed lawyers in Britain, Brazil, the United States, Switzerland and France.

Ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup, the Indian cricket team management is eagerly looking forward to know the fitness status of some key stars. The biggest name among them all is pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who will be returning to action in the T20I series against Ireland, starting Friday. But Bumrah is not the only one, whose absence has been hurting India ahead of the mega events. The like of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are among the big names who have been missing from the scene for far too long.
