Set a target of 115 after Australia were bowled out for 113 in their second innings, India completed the chase in 26.4 overs on the third day of the match. India were 14 for 1 at lunch. Earlier in the day, Ravindra Jadeja returned with brilliant figures of 7/42 in 12.1 overs while his spin colleague Ravichandran Ashwin took three Australian wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja was the star for India as he claimed seven wickets to bundle out Australia for just 113 on Day 3 of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy encounter on Sunday. Among the seven wickets taken by Jadeja, five were bowled dismissals and it was the first time in around 21 years that a spinner achieved such a feat. After a dull outing in the Nagpur Test, Australia spinner Nathan Lyon turned his team's wrecker-in-chief again, bagging a 5-wicket haul on Day 2 of the second Test against India in New Delhi. Lyon bagged some crucial wickets on the day, dismissing the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, and Srikar Bharat. The dismissal of Pujara was arguably the most painful for Indians considering the talismanic batter is playing his 100th Test. On an interesting second day, Ashwin (37) and Axar (74) added 114 runs for the eighth wicket after India had slumped to 139/7, with Lyon taking his 22nd five-wicket haul in Test cricket. The Australian spinner complimented the two India players for their gritty batting display, saying the duo could easily bat at No.6 for any Test-playing team.

Ravichandran Ashwin, the man who made non-striker's run-out cool, again came close to doing the same in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia in New Delhi. With Marnus Labuschagne at the non-striker's end, Ashwin stopped short of delivering the ball in the 19th over of the innings on Day 1. While Ashwin completed his full action, he didn't deliver the ball to turn around and check the position of Labuschagne. The latter took his crease quickly after spotting Ashwin's action.
