West Zone won the 2022 Duleep Trophy title after crushing South Zone by a massive margin of 294 runs on the fifth and final day of the summit showdown on Sunday. Set an improbable victory target of 529, South Zone were all out for 234 in the first session of the fifth morning, having resumed the day at a precarious 154 for six. Playing prominent roles in firing the West Zone to the big win were Yashasvi Jaiswal (265 in second innings), Sarfaraz Khan (127 in second innings) and the bowlers led by seasoned left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat.

The fifth and final day of the Duleep Trophy final between West Zone and South Zone saw some drama unfolding in the middle as West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane sent young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal off the field due to disciplinary issues. The entire episode unfolded as Jaiswal was having a regular go at South Zone batter T Ravi Teja. Both players kept on having a go at each other, and finally the umpires decided to have a word with Rahane.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed his way to a double hundred in just about two-and-half sessions as West Zone took control of proceedings despite South's 57-run first innings lead on the third day of the Duleep Trophy final in Coimbatore. At the end of third day's play, West Zone were 376 for 3, courtesy Jaiswal's unbeaten 209 off 244 balls that had 23 boundaries and three sixes. West now have a lead of 319 runs and even if they declare at lunch on Day four, they will have five full sessions to force an outright victory although the track is getting easier for batting with no considerable wear and tear.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal let out a roar as he held up his bat and helmet at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore. He had just reached his double-century in the Duleep Trophy final, putting West Zone in a commanding position against South Zone on Day 3. Jaiswal, who had flopped in the first innings, put on a masterclass in the second as he raced away to his double-century. His joy was palpable as Jaiswal removed his helmet and raised both arms in the air and roared "come on" before looking up at the skies with bat and helmet still raised.

West Zone and North Zone secured semi-final berths in the Duleep Trophy by taking the first-innings lead in their matches against North East Zone and East Zone respectively. While West obtained a massive 367-run lead over North East Zone at the M A Chidambaram Stadium and opted for batting practice on the fourth and final day on Sunday, North rode on a superb ton by debutant Yash Dhull (193) to overhaul East Zone's total. The Ajinkya Rahane-led West Zone were 268 for five when the match ended. Aith Sheth remained not out on 102 (101 balls, 10 fours, 1 six), and Shams Mulani fell for 97 (115 balls, 12 fours), as the match meandered to a draw.

On a comeback trail, Ajinkya Rahane and Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered double centuries as West Zone put a pedestrian North East Zone attack to the sword by amassing 590 for two in their Duleep Trophy quarter-final in Chennai on Friday. Sent into bat, Rahane (207 batting) and Jaiswal (228) toyed with the North East bowling line-up and added 333 runs for the second wicket. The classy Rahane, who has played many a memorable knock in the Test arena, seemed to enjoy the hit in the middle as he feasted on the North East bowling. Not known to be a six hitter, Rahane sent six over the rope, apart from his 22 fours to stamp his authority on the second day.
