Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant made his return as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the first Test match against Bangladesh starting September 19. He will be making his return to Test cricket for India after nearly 20 months following the injuries suffered in a car accident. Rohit Sharma will be the captain while Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were both included in the squad. Akash Deep was named in the squad while young pacer Yash Dayal earned a maiden call-up.

Pant joined Musheer Khan in the middle after Sarfaraz Khan, one of the stars hoping to make it to India's squad for the Test series against Bangladesh, failed to impress. However, Pant couldn't impress on his return as he was dismissed on a score of seven courtesy of Shubman Gill's stunning catch. India B are now six wickets down. Team India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is set to miss the first round of the 2024-25 season of the Duleep Trophy after suffering an injury during last week's pre-season fixture for Mumbai at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. In the match against TNCA XI last week, Suryakumar did not bat in the second innings due to a hand injury sustained during the third day while fielding. The right-hand batter has been advised to take a rest and he is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in order to recover from his injury.
