Indian cricket team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again impressed as the youngster achieved a historic first during Day 1 of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday. Jaiswal remained resilient at one end while India kept losing wickets and was able to slam a gritty half-century against an impressive bowling attack. Thanks to the half-century, Jaiswal became the first batter in the 147-year history of Test cricket to score more than 750 runs in his first 10 innings at home. The record previously belonged to George Headley of West Indies who slammed 747 back in 1935.

Team India star Rishabh Pant was involved in a heated exchange with Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das on Day 1 of the 1st Test in Chennai. The incident happened in the 15th over of India's first innings with Taskin Ahmed bowling to Yashasvi Jaiswal. Taskin bowled a good length a delivery to Jaiswal who defended it towards gully. Pant wanted to steal a run but was sent back by Jaiswal. As the fielder sent the ball towards the non-striker's end, it deflected off Pant's pads and went towards mid-on.

Ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh, India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday all but confirmed the team's playing for the game in Chennai. Gambhir also insisted that the opposition must learn to tackle spin-friendly conditions, even though the first Test in Chennai is set to be played on red soil track, which is known for creating conditions in favour of the fast bowlers. As far as India's playing XI is concerned, Gambhir gave away a few hints as to how the Rohit Sharma-led side might line-up against Bangladesh.

However, according to a report on Sportstar, Jaiswal had a tough time facing the fast bowlers during the net session at the M Chidambaram Stadium on Monday. The report claimed that Jaiswal cut a 'sorry figure' against both Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah as the youngster kept missing deliveries outside the off-stump. However, the left-hander did look quite comfortable against the spinners and the report added that he used the sweep quite well to counter the threat of the spinners.

Jaiswal, who has has 1028 runs in the World Test Championship 2023-25, eyes a place in the history books when India take on Bangladesh in the series opener. If the 22-year-old scores 132 runs across the two Tests, he will become the Indian batter with the most number of runs in a single edition of the WTC.
