Pato O’Ward continued his rebound in the NTT IndyCar Series points standings, topping the results sheet Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park in his first victory of the season.
After polesitter Rinus VeeKay controlled the opening two-thirds of the race, the Barber contest came alive on the final round of pitstops as VeeKay, O’Ward, Scott McLaughlin and Will Power pulled in together.
Herta lapped the 2.366-mile 17-turn Alabama course in 1m06.5149s to shade defending series champion and 2021 Barber winner Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing) by 0.05s.
INDIANAPOLIS — Three Indy 500 winners had spins coming out of the pits Wednesday during an open test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and four-time race champion Helio Castroneves hit the Turn 2 wall with about 80 minutes left in an unusually chaotic session.
Having fended off threats from Palou and Grosjean, the Penske driver took the team's third consecutive win after a crash-strewn race.
LONG BEACH, California — Josef Newgarden capitalized on a swift pit stop and good strategy, fending off a charge Sunday by Romain Grosjean to win the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, his first NTT IndyCar Series victory on the famed street circuit.
