MELBOURNE :Mitchell Starc has opted out of the final phase of the Indian Premier League but most of his Australia teammates will return to India to honour their franchise commitments, according to multiple media reports on Friday.
The 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a solid Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as he started off his innings with a six on his first ball, making him the 10th player to do so. Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down as skipper of the West Indies Test team after four years in charge, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said on Monday after a shift in leadership roles saw Shai Hope taking over captaincy of the T20I side. Brathwaite, 32, was appointed as West Indies' Test captain in place of Jason Holder in March 2021. Hope, who is also the team's ODI skipper, replaced Rovman Powell for T20I captaincy. Powell has led the T20 side since May 2023. In a statement, CWI said, "Brathwaite wanted to ensure the team had a period of transition before his departure. As a result, he has submitted his resignation ahead of the home series against Australia, giving the new leadership time to establish itself.

Nicholas Pooran has showered support to new Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant adding that the franchise has a balanced squad to lift the title in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, commencing on March 22. Pant was named LSG captain in January after being acquired by the Lucknow-based franchise for a record-setting Rs 27 crore in last year's auction in Jeddah. "We have a good chance, we've a really balanced team (with) experienced and youth (players). We're looking forward to leading with the experienced players," Pooran told IANS. The West Indian wicketkeeper-batter was among the five players to be retained by the franchise for IPL 2025.

Rishabh Pant is among the top keeper-batters in the world for the manner in which he scores runs, feels former West Indies skipper Denesh Ramdin, who is here to play the International Masters League T20 tournament. "Obviously, Rishabh Pant is one—he's unique in the way he bats and scores runs. There's a young guy from Australia, Josh Inglis—he did well in the Champions Trophy. There are many young keepers coming through," Ramdin was quoted as saying in a press release. The 40-year-old, who played 71 Tests, 139 ODIs and 74 T20Is, feels that role of keepers have evolved over the years since Adam Gilchrist came into prominence.
