India captain Rohit Sharma on Monday said, as a leader, he wants his team to "achieve" what others Indian sides in the past have failed to do in South Africa. Since their first Test series in South Africa in 1992, India have never achieved success there. India will play South Africa in the the first of the two Tests starting here on Tuesday. "Want to achieve what nobody has achieved in this part of the world," Rohit said during the pre-match press conference. Rohit also did not want to speak about his cricketing future, just saying that he wants to enjoy the game.
South Africa will take on India in 1st Test of Freedom Trophy 2023-24 on December 26 at SuperSport Park in Centurion, South Africa. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM IST.
Life has been a roller-coaster for Sai Sudharsan in South Africa as the young India batter made his debut for the national team, smasing two half-centuries on the trot. Sudharsan made his debut in the first ODI against the Proteas on Sunday, December 17, marking the occasion with a well-crafted 55 not out as India won the game by eight wickets. He then followed it up with a brilliant 62 in a losing cause in the second ODI. While the 22-year-old could only conjure 10 runs in the series decider, he continued to impress on the field.
After India clinched an ODI series victory against South Africa, captain KL Rahul hailed the performance of Player of the Match Sanju Samson for his outstanding century against Proteas and said that he is pleased to see the batter perform well against Proteas even though he hasn't got a lot of chances at the top of the batting order. Sanju Samson's wonderfully paced ton and Rinku Singh's powerful cameo followed by Arshdeep Singh's blistering spell helped India clinch a three-match ODI series against South Africa, registering a 78 runs win over Proteas in the third match here at Boland Park on Thursday.
Sanju Samson's mature maiden ODI hundred and wiliness of a young set of bowlers on a sticky surface formed a heady concoction in India's 78-run win over South Africa in the third and final match here Thursday. India, thus, bagged the rubber 2-1, their second series triumph on these shores since 2018. Samson's measured 108 (114 balls) and Tilak Varma's patient 52 (77 balls), his first fifty in this format, guided India to a competitive 296 for eight. Their 116-run alliance for an enterprising fourth wicket stand was a treat to watch.
India will be going up against South Africa in the third and final ODI on Thursday, at the Boland Park in Paarl. After facing a defeat in the first ODI, the Proteas convincingly won the second ODI and have managed to keep the series alive. Tony de Zorzi's unbeaten 122-ball 119 guided his side home. However, the KL Rahul-led side will aim for a better outing in the third match, in order to claim the three-match series. Young opener Sai Sudarshan, who made his international in the first ODI, is in sublime form as he smashed half-centuries in both the matches.
