Following their impressive performances at the just-concluded Paris 2024 Olympics, women’s 200m and men’s 400m finalists, Favour Ofili and Samuel Ogazi have moved several steps up in the latest World Athletics rankings released on Wednesday evening. Also, on the upward swing is Shot Put finalist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi. As authoritatively predicted by Sportsnow.com.ng, Ofili, who finished sixth in the 200m final, moved from pre-Paris 2024 Olympics number 31 to eighth in the 200m event with a ranking score of 1,315, up from 1,226 (89 points). The 21-year-old also moved from 216 in the women’s overall ranking (1,305) to 138 (1,337). Ogazi, who finished seventh in the final, also had a geometric rise, moving from 23rd pre-Paris 2024 Olympics (1,264) to 12th (1,322) in the 400m. In Shot Put, Enekwechi moved a step up from eighth pre-Olympics (1,348) to seventh ( 1,370) after finishing sixth in the final at the Olympics. Nathaniel Ezekiel, a 400m hurdler, also moved from 29th (1,268) to 23rd (1,273) in the latest ranking, although he did not get to the final. Long jumper, Ese Brume, however, dropped from her pre-Olympics number three position (1360) to fourth (1,350) despite finishing fifth in the final in Paris.
